Surrey Climate Commission get funding from PCAN

It was confirmed last week we will receive funding from PCAN (The Place-based Climate Action Network).

The funding will help the Commission to meet it's objectives of stimulating and coordinating  more effective action in making Surrey a zero carbon County. 

Our Bid entitled “Developing Effective Climate Policy in a Multi-Authority Local Area'  also promises to offer a useful blueprint to other counties that wish to follow Surrey's lead.

Baseline Study taking Shape

Our Baseline Study , researched by the University of Surrey, is making great strides.

Dr Erica Russell has summarised progress in the presentation attached below.

It is providing more detailed ,granular detail that is proving valuable for our working groups in being able to influence in the most effective way.

UK Commissions meet on Zoom

UK Commissions Zoom Conference

On the 10th June all the existing and prospective commissions from around the UK met up by zoom link. The aim was to discuss the way forward and see how we can collaborate to accelerate the process of decarbonisation in the Country. It was also very reassuring that so many cities and larger towns were singing from the same song sheet.

Launch of Surrey County Council's Climate Strategy

Surrey County Council have just launched their Climate Strategy known as Surrey's Greener Future

This shows the joint ambition of the Council and all the local authorities in tackling carbon emissions in Surrey.

Surrey Climate Commission welcomes the committment shown in delivering this Strategy.

We also recognise however that we as a County need to deliver.
