Gatwick airport expansion plans: Register by 19 November to have your say
15th November, 2023 - 13:29
The public is invited to register interest in the proposed Gatwick expansion by 19 November here.
Gatwick airport is already the second busiest airport in the UK and the busiest single runway airport in the world. The Surrey Climate Commission strongly opposes the northern runway plans and associated expansion of operations at Gatwick. The proposed expansion would enable dual-runway operations and allow the airport to expand from 47 million passengers per annum (mmpa) in 2019 to 80 million mppa by 2047. This would match the current scale of Heathrow airport and would bring with it a huge increase in carbon and other emissions and noise. This is why we agree with points set out by the Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign (GACC). Gatwick currently has two runways, but the northern runway can only be used when the main runway is out of use. Gatwick Airport Limited is seeking permission, via the Development Consent Order (DCO) planning process, to reposition the existing northern runway 12 metres further north to increase separation from the main runway.
